Updated: Jul 11, 2020

You must hear a lot the secrets why Japanese people’s skin is so flawless and they always look so young and healthy. I’ve been studying in Japanese beauty school for 4 years in Tokyo and this is what I have learned from my teachers and classmate.

Instead of drinking green tea, the younger generation love to have barley tea

In our school, we have traditional tea ceremony class will serve matcha (green tea) and Japanese treats during the class and surprising a lot of my classmate do not enjoy the green tea as much as the older generation.

They said the taste of match is a bit bitter for them, instead of that they drink Barley tea daily and barley tea has the following health benefits.

Used for detoxification

Barley tea can help in detoxifying your body in two ways. First, it cleanses your blood. Barley tea contains a substance called pyrazine that prevents blood coagulation and helps in improving circulation.

Treats urinary tract infections

One of the best things that you can do to cure a urinary tract infection (UTI) is to drink a lot of fluids to flush out the bacteria from your system

Improves digestion

The fiber present in barley and therefore, in the tea helps in regulating your bowel movements, prevents constipation, gets rid of a bloated stomach, and keeps your gut clean.

Helps you sleep better

Barley tea contains melatonin and tryptophan, which are both active ingredients that promote good sleep

Cures cold and flu

As discussed above, barley tea is rich in antioxidants and has anti-bacterial properties too. This makes it a great home remedy for cold and flu

They take a bath every day (YES, everyone!)

Onsen (Hot Spring) is famous in Japan before I move to Japan, I kind of already know Japanese people like hot spring. I just didn’t know how much they love to take baths.

In a daily conversation with my Japanese classmate, it is not difficult to hear them talking about baths. “Today is so tired, cannot wait to take a hot bath after school” Japanese believes taking bath daily is a great way to end the day, taking a bath will help you to have better blood circulation, warming up your body before you go to bed, to able to get you to fall asleep easily and deeply.

The benefits of taking a bath instead of a shower:

  • Have better blood circulation

  • Warming up your body before you go to bed (BEST for winter time)

  • Fall asleep easily

  • Relaxing

  • Not feeling tired all the time the next day

  • Not easy to get sick

You should:

* Set a temperature around 37 c to 39 c (98-100 degree) and just dip yourself into the bath for only 20 mins and do it 1 hour before you sleep

We have a bathing place/hot spring 20 mins walk away from our school, you will not be surprised some of my classmate to choose to have a nice bath after a long school day! Yes, they didn’t go to Karaoke. (Because we are all beauty school students)

Their favorite breakfast is fermented soybeans – Natto

Have you heard of natto? It is fermented soybeans, slimy, the smell for sure is not for everyone (just like Kimchi) I came across natto when I was 16, I was so into Japanese beauty and drama, I saw them having natto for breakfast on the TV all the time.

I remember one of my favorite actress Aya Ueto shared her beauty secret is having natto for breakfast every day to help maintain healthy, smooth skin.

I tired as I said when I was 16, Urhhhhggg….. I wasn’t for everyone for sure. But you will get used to it. Eating it cold is the best, adding mustard and soy source (usually comes together with the package) and put it on top of hot rice … ummmm that would be my easy favorite breakfast.

When I was living with my Japanese roommate in Japan, she was so surprised I like it too!

Of course, everything makes me pretty, I will put them into my mouth.

Also, Natto’s nutrients help to prevent blood clots, decreased risks of major illnesses, contains a large variety of nutrients, vitamins, enzymes and amino acids that help to lower the risks of many diseases and improve overall health and longevity.

Natto can easily find in an Asian supermarket in the United States now, if you are brave, do anything for beauty! GO FOR IT!

YOU MADE IT!
