Should You Use Face Wash In The Morning OR Just Water?

How Many Of You Clean Your Face With Face Wash?

This Is What I Learn From A Japanese Dermatologist

I cannot recall where did I learn it from, but I remember someone told me "You shouldn't clean your face too often, that not good for your skin" Since then I only wash my face once a day (Even with makeup, I only wash it with cleaning oil without double cleanse) - maybe that is too extreme.

TURE! You really shouldn't clean your face too often.

BUT! I have also noticed that if you only wash your face once in the evening, that's not good enough for your skin. Maybe you didn't remove your makeup properly, you will realize your skin often looks dull, oily t-zone, makeup didn't last long, the foundation doesn't want to stick on your face, and have broken out all the time.

I recently read a book from a Japanese dermatologist, she recommends we should wash our face at least twice a day. These are her advice:

You Should Definitely Wash Your Face With Face Wash In The Morning Just to Remember Not Overstripping The Skin With Harsh, Drying Cleansers"

1. Always Wash Your Face In The Morning

If you put on products like serums, sheet masks, moisturizers, sleeping masks before bed, you would like to wash those off before your morning routine and makeup. You should choose a gentle cleanser like a gel or milk cleanser int the morning. Not the same one as you use to remove your makeup. The one you use at night may be too strong.

My recommendation for morning cleanser is Lagom from Korea USD $ 20.9

It is a Gel to Water texture cleanser, very gentle yet able to cleanse the face properly. I have seen so many Japanese Youtuber recommended this product that why I tried it!

I enjoy using it very much as it instantly brightens up your skin tone, not dry, a very pleasant feeling after using it in the morning. It is the top 100 products from Olive Young all the time.

2. Double Cleans Every Night If You Have Makeup On

After a long day at work or being outside, washing your face twice might be a difficult task for you. But having a clean face is s always a golden rule to have beautiful and healthy skin. We are exposed to dirt and polluted environment daily and not removing all those gunk at the end of the day would damage our skin or cause skin irritation, acne breakouts.

The dermatologist recommended using a cleansing oil to remove makeup and follow up with a form/cream/gel-based cleanser as a double clean, to make sure remove all the gunk before we go to bed.

Double Cleansing, I would recommend this Korean best selling product from

This plant-based cleanser contains AHA and BHA to help remove dead skin and control excessive sebum. The cleanser has a refreshing mint scent from peppermint oil ingredient, have a bit cooling effect after washing your face. If you have oily skin, I think this is good for you to use it in the morning as well.

3. Use Luke Warm Water

Some of you might like to wash your face in the shower, it is faster and easier but the temperature you are using in a hot shower might be too hot for your face. The dermatologist-recommended us to separate the steps if possible. The hot water naturally strips the skin of the necessary oil barrier so if possible wash your face with lukewarm water before popping into the shower.

4. Use a toner and moisturizer quickly after cleansing.

In Asia, you often hear the terms of "3-second golden rules" it basically means you should put on either toner or moisturizer within 3 seconds after cleansing, while your skin is still a bit damp from cleansing and it helps to keep the moisture in together with your toner and moisturizer.

I would recommend having a spray toner after cleansing your face, it is fast and effective!

My recent favorite is The One thing Toner USD$ 12-15. You can find out more details on my other blog post.
